What is EVIGeM!

SRC: European Commission

EVIGeM, the main competence centre in dimensional metrology is a commercial network of European partner organisations. This Europe-wide network is organised as a virtual institute. Suppliers, vendors and manufacturers of dimensional metrology equipment cooperate with users, research institutes, calibration centres and individual experts. The European Virtual Institute of Geometric and Dimensional Metrology was initiated and funded by the European Commission and is carried on by the EVIGeM Association e.V. and the EVIGeM GmbH as an operating company of the internet platform.

Behind EVIGeM

Member organisations of the EVIGeM Association e.V. are supplier, vendor and manufacturer of metrology instruments, users, research institutes, calibration centres and individual experts in dimensional metrology. EVIGeM assists and helps members and any external interested party, provides knowledge transfer, services requiring instrumentation, support of commercial activities, scientific and technical assistance, direct activities.

Knowledge providers will deal with expertise about uncertainty calculations, standards, gauges, measuring languages, computer aided quality assurance (CAQ), measuring software, interfaces and round robin test results. Their generic activities like instrumentation handling, tolerancing and temperature control can cross fertilise each thematic group. Applications include off-line and in-process inspection. The probing methods used can be tactile, optical, acoustic, capacitive or inductive.

Additional organisations are invited to sign for membership in the EVIGeM Association e.V., free to act as both, "clients" and "providers". The membership structure of the EVIGeM consortium keeps the access open for new members. New members can be nominated to enhance technology access as well as coverage of European regions.

Goals of EVIGeM

The main goal of EVIGeM - dimensional metrology- is to recover, maintain and advance Europe's position in geometry measurements, comprising instrumentation (hardware and software), scientific knowledge and methodology in dimensional metrology.
